A lot of movies today use computer generated imagery (or CGI) in order to create images of different creatures, backgrounds and scenery, and other special effects. It’s these effects that make the movies we love so much as spectacular as they are. Some films wouldn’t exist without these artificial effects, or they would be completely different.
While almost every movie made today uses special effects, the genres that use its advantages the most are the sci-fi and fantasy genres. It’s almost impossible to make these movies without using CGI, and past attempts prove it’s not the best idea (take the original Planet of the Apes for example).
Viewers love losing themselves in another reality, a different world or reality with completely different scenery. It doesn’t matter if the movie is set space, in a strange land, or the past or future. It’s always nice taking a break from our mundane routines to become part of another story for a few hours.
But getting those details right can be really hard. It’s not easy to bring these fantastic beings, objects, and creatures to life. This is something that professionals have been dealing with for decades now, as they try to perfect the methods and technologies used in filmmaking. The end result is the product of much hard work on everyone’s side – directors, cinematographers, actors and stuntmen, and of course the CGI experts.
Special effects aren’t only used to create the visual imagery that makes these films extraordinary. It can also be used to save on production costs by generating everything using graphics, including backdrops, items, and even people. Imaging being able to create almost everything on the screen with a graphics engine. In some cases – this is actually true. The technology available today is simply remarkable.
We know that most films use CGI to some extent, but it’s amazing to see how certain scenes were filmed and later added with special effects. Green screens, gray suits, and sensor masks are all used in popular films, and in some pictures we can actually see how some of our favorite scenes were brought to life using special effects. No matter the movie, it’s no argument that visual effects make all the difference.
