As time goes on, the band of characters come into contact with various characters, who happen to be “guest actors” as well. But while the presence of these guest actors are great and all, the main characters are the reason people watch the show, as viewers tuned in week after week to see what the glamorous Ginger, kind-hearted Mary Ann and of course the hapless goof Gillian were all up to.
While we’re on the subject, let’s talk about the prominent individuals of Gilligan’s Island who inspired us with the way they dealt with the adversity they faced. You had Gilligan himself, played by Mr. Bob Denver – who naturally he became a fan favorite. Then you had the millionaire couple, Mr. and Mrs. Howell, who were played by the convincing Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer. There was the intelligent Professor, played by Russell Johnson, and then of course starlet Ginger Grant, played by Miss Tina Louise. Alan Hale portrayed the role of “Skipper,” and then last but not least – the lovely Dawn Wells portrayed, Mary Ann Louise, on whom many boys certainly had a crush.
As the show goes on, the main idea is that our wanderlust friends are constantly trying to find a way off of the island – but of course, this is easier said than done. But of course, if they had escaped the island on day one, there wouldn’t have really been a point to watch the show, would there? When you take a step back to look at some of the successful shows that have existed since then, it becomes apparent how influential Gilligan’s Island was. ABC’s Lost, a recent supernatural mystery series about castaways on an island, is a good example of this. Gilligan’s Island was truly one of the greatest, and now we’re about to learn some of its most interesting secrets.
